SANDOWN LEISURE CENTRE RE-OPENS AFTER IMPROVEMENTS

The Heights Leisure Centre in Sandown has re-opened its doors after a raft of improvements were completed, with more to come in 2013.

According to iwradio.co.uk, the first phase of work at the leisure facility included the refurbishment of its swimming pool, changing rooms, reception area and cafe; a new gym and activity studio was also added.

Although some parts of The Heights have been open for public use during these works, it was only on Monday (October 15th) that people were allowed full access to the pool and gym again. The new features may well attract local residents as much as Isle of Wight hotel guests keen to keep fit while on holiday.

The second phase – due to be completed by February next year – will see a new spin-fit studio, as well as further refurbishment for the facility’s squash courts and health suite.

Reporting for local news provider iwcp.co.uk, Ross Finden explained that the squash courts are due to have motion-activated lights installed and play walls resurfaced; adding that the first phase was originally due to be completed earlier this year.

He explained: “The work was due to be completed in June, as part of a multi-million pound refurbishment by the Isle of Wight Council, but was delayed after contractors discovered the roof over the swimming pool had to be replaced.”
