This spring up to 100 kite surfers will cross the Solent on their boards as part of a charity event.
They will kite surf from Ryde on the Isle of Wight to Bracklesham Bay near East Wittering in West Sussex on Saturday May 18th 2013, reports onthewight.com, with a barbecue organised for when entrants arrive on the mainland.
Anyone keen to enter will need to be on Ryde beach in the morning, so they may want to stay in Isle of Wight accommodation the night before. The nature of kite surfing means the event is reliant on favourable weather.
The occasion is being organised by Isle of Wight charity Ability Dogs 4 Young People (AD4YP), alongside The Kite Academy and Sussex Beach Academy. According to advice on abilitydogs4yp.org.uk, entrants need to be at least competent at kite surfing, as well as have their own equipment and insurance.
