NEW PUB TO BE SECOND-SMALLEST ON ISLE OF WIGHT

Real ale drinkers will soon have a new spot to visit on the Isle of Wight – the Cowes Ale House, reports iwcp.co.uk.

Owners Mark and Debbie Ridett already run one ale-driven pub – Newport Ale House – and their second will have an unusual claim to fame; it will be the second-smallest pub on the island. The Volunteer in Ventnor is believed to be the smallest.

The area has a host of pubs that people staying in hotels in Isle of Wight may want to check out, with the Cowes Ale House having now received its alcohol licence in spite of objections by the people living above it.

Debbie said: “We do not feel, with the measures in place, there will be any problems. I am keen to work with residents, particularly during the building work.”

The Newport Ale House only opened 18 months ago but the Ridetts are already keen to expand into Cowes. To appease the objecting nearby residents, they have agreed not to let people congregate on the shared entrance path, as well as submit to police of underage drinkers and those who have too much to drink.

For those that enjoy real ale, it may be worth checking what the Isle of Wight branch of CAMRA has planned in terms of events. According to wightwash.org.uk, branch meetings for the next few months have been arranged and take in pubs in Shanklin, Chine and Cowes among other places.
